Introduction to injectables: Botox® and Fillers (Hyaluronic Acid)

Clinique Esthetic MD offers basic training to candidates wishing to begin a career in aesthetic medicine. Botulinum toxin, with its muscle-relaxing effect designed to change the expression your patient projects to those around her. Filling agents such as hyaluronic acid and its beneficial volumizing and moisturizing effect on the dermis.

All this while acquiring basic notions of dermatology from a practitioner who has worked in this field for 12 years.

Eligibility requirements:

  • Member in good standing of the Collèges des Médecins du Québec, OR
  • Nurse or nursing assistant member of the OIIQ or OIIAQ

    Duration: One week online and 3 days face-to-face

    Formal contraindications for models: Pregnancy, allergy to hyaluronic acid or Botox

Course Plan

Theory: One week online, one morning with an aesthetic medicine nurse and 3 hrs with Dr. Sakellarides (Doctor certified in Aesthetic Medicine by the Collège des Médecins du Québec)

  • Anatomy and structure: histology of the skin, practical approach to its components: collagen and hyaluronic acid
  • Basics of common skin diseases
  • Aging of the skin, particularly the face
  • Topical treatment: indications and limits of efficacy
  • Facial anatomy: muscles, nerves and vessels
  • Botulinum toxins (Dysport®, Botox®, Xeomin® and Nuceiva®) and facial expression modification
  • Restoring facial volume loss with hyaluronic acid (Restylane®, Juvederm®, Revanesse®, Teosyal®, Filorga®)

Practical training: Two sessions, one afternoon and one morning with the doctor

  • Drawing up an aesthetic medicine file
  • The art of taking standardized photos
  • Drawing up a treatment plan
  • Pain management and local anesthesia
  • Shadowing for a period of 3 hrs
  • One-on-one injection: 3 hrs period.

Here are the specific objectives we aim to achieve through this course:

  • Learn the anatomy and histology of the skin
  • Master knowledge of facial anatomy, in particular muscles, nerves and vessels
  • Botulinum toxins, their therapeutic effects and contraindications
  • Knowledge of filling agents, their volumizing effects and contraindications
  • Evaluate a patient according to the reason for consultation and draw up a file including standardized photos
  • Draw up a treatment plan in agreement with the patient
  • Provide an estimate and obtain consent for treatment, taking care to meet the patient’s expectations
  • Botulinum toxin injection, under direct supervision, of the glabella, forehead and crow’s feet
  • Hyaluronic acid injection of cheekbones, nasolabial folds, marionette lines and lips
  • Complete procedure on file, with traceability of agents used
  • Follow-up to the patient’s complete satisfaction.

Training: Advanced Injection Techniques in Medical Aesthetics

Clinic Esthetic MD offers advanced training to candidates wishing to master injection techniques in aesthetic medicine, enabling them to practice more independently and safely. Botulinum toxin, with its muscle-relaxing effect designed to change the expression your patient projects to those around her. All muscular areas of the face are described. Temporary fillers such as hyaluronic acid and its beneficial volumizing and moisturizing effect on the dermis. Permanent dermal fillers are studied.

Hands on personalized approach with direct supervision by Dr Sakellarides

Eligibility requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training and Member in good standing of the Collège des Médecins du Québec, OR
  • Nurse or nursing assistant member of the OIIQ or OIIAQ.

    Duration: One week online and 2 days face-to-face

    Certificate of completion issued by Dr Sakellarides (accredited in aesthetic medicine by the Collège des Médecins du Québec)

Course Plan

Theory: One week online and two days face-to-face with Dr. Sakellarides, comprising four periods – one theoretical period and three practical periods.

  • Anatomy and histological structure of the skin.
  • Extracellular matrix and description of its components: collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid
  • Stem cells and the principle of regeneration
  • Aging of the skin and the face in particular
  • Facial anatomy: muscles, nerves, blood and lymph vessels
  • Botulinum toxins (Dysport®, Botox®, Xeomin® and Nuceiva®) and facial expression modification
  • Advanced concentration technique for botulinum toxin.
  • Injection of the glabella, forehead and its variants, orbicularis eyelidis, non-surgical correction of upper eyelid droop, vertical wrinkles of the upper lip, lip flip, correction of bruxism, non-surgical correction of the oval of the face
  • Side effects and complications of botulinum toxin injections
  • Restoring facial volume loss with hyaluronic acid (Restylane®, Juvederm®, Revanesse®, Teosyal®, Filorga®)
  • Rheological properties (Elasticity, G’, viscosity G”) of the main hyaluronic acids on the market
  • Bolus needle injection, subcutaneous injection technique using a cannula
  • Side effects and complications associated with filling agents
  • Use of Hyaluronidase for vascular complications


Practical training: Three periods – one afternoon and one full day

  • Aesthetic medicine record writing
  • The art of taking standardized photos
  • Drawing up a treatment plan
  • Pain management and local and locoregional anesthesia
  • One-on-one injection: 3 periods of 3 hrs.

  • Master the different anatomical planes of the face
  • Be familiar with botulinum toxins, the different concentrations they can be used in, and their therapeutic effects, particularly in the periorbital and upper lip areas
  • Know the rheological differences (elasticity G’, viscosity G”) of filling agents, and their specific volumizing effects depending on the site injected
  • Identify and treat complications related to filling agents, in particular overcorrection, venous effraction and the more serious complication of arterial embolization
  • Evaluate a patient, respecting the reason for consultation, and draw up a file including standardized photos
  • Drawing up a treatment plan in agreement with the patient
  • Provide an estimate and obtain consent for treatment, taking care to meet the patient’s expectations
  • Botulinum toxin injection, under direct supervision, of the glabella, forehead and crow’s feet, orbicularis eyelidis, gummy smile, masseter, chin and nasalis
  • Injection of hyaluronic acid into the cheekbones, nasolabial folds, marionette lines and lips, by direct or retrotraced injection into the oval of the face
  • Subcutaneous cannula or needle injection
  • Complete procedure recorded in the file, with traceability of agents used
  • Ensure follow-up to the patient’s complete satisfaction.
